Technical Advisory Board:
The Technical Advisory Board (TAB) is comprised of one representative from each corporate member of the Consortium and two non-voting members, the director and associate director of CEST. TAB members perform a variety of vital tasks:

  • recommend and support projects which directly benefit the members
  • assist in identifying research strategy
  • solicit or recommend new members for the Consortium
  • assist faculty in obtaining grants and contracts
  • review the progress of the resulting research

Research Faculty:
K. Chandrashekhara,Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering,
Research Interests: Composite materials, finite element analysis

Virgil J. Flanigan,Professor Emeritus, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Research Interests: Thermodynamics and energy conversion, especially related to waste utilization and reduction. He has developed a low-cost self-fueled process to convert waste tires into value added products such as limonene, solvents, low-medium BTU fuel gas, carbon black, and steel. The technology for which he has a process patent has been employed in a waste tire recycling plant in China. The plant is capable of pyrolizing seven million tires per year. He holds other patents relating to recycling of agricultural waste.

Shubhender Kapila,MSMC Endowed Professor of Chemistry.
Research Interests: Development of ionization based chemical sensors, synthesis of modified peptides, isolation and characterization of natural antioxidants, environmental transport and transformations of xenobiotics, development and evaluation of integrated remediation techniques for decontaminates development of resource recycling and re¬covery technologies.

Nuran Ercal,Associate Professor, Chemistry
Research Interests: Role of free radicals in lead- and radiation-induced oxidative stress.

Daniel Forciniti,Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering
Research Interests: Adsorption of heavy metals by natural materials and microorganisms, diffusion of gases and liquids through polymeric mem¬branes, heterogeneous photocatalysis.

Yue-wern Huang,Associate Professor, Biological Sciences
Research Interests: Biomarkers for Endocrine Disruption and Health Indicators

Yinfa Ma,Professor, Chemistry
Research Interests: Bioanalytical chemistry, single molecule detection

Paul Nam,Assistant Professor, Chemistry
Research Interests: Analytical and environmental chemistry

Prakash Reddy,Assistant Professor, Chemistry
Research Interests: Organofluorine chemistry

Michael Van De Mark,Associate Professor, Chemistry
Research Interests: Development of water-borne coatings technologies to reduce Volatile Organic Content (VOC) in resins and epoxies. Surface preparation and curing mechanism using AC impedance spectroscopy.

David Westenberg,Associate Professor, Biological Sciences
Research Interests: Soybean Symbiosis: Bioenergetics and Applications
